London: The Hindu Forum of Britain has praised Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s statement celebrating a ‘partnership of equals with the modern, confident 21st century India’ as an important initiative that will boost bilateral relations and accord India its rightful place on the world stage.
At a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Brown said, "The oldest democracy and the largest democracy should work for a stronger economy and prosperity of our societies and for a better world.”
“India is the success story of South Asia,” said Ramesh Kallidai, secretary general of the Hindu Forum of Britain. “And, Indians in Britain, with some of the highest levels of education, professional employment and incomes, have become the most successful minority community in the West. It is only right that India and Britain continue to strengthen their relationships based on existing economic, cultural and educational ties.”
Last year, the Hindu Forum of Britain had conferred a Hindu name ‘Govardhan Brown’ to the Prime Minister at their annual Diwali reception at the House of Commons.
“We also welcome Gordon Brown’s support to India’s bid for a permanent seat in the United Nation’s Security Council, “continued Ramesh. “India is the only country in the region that has had a stable democratic government since its independence. It is not only an economic power to be reckoned with, but also has a stabilizing influence on peace in South Asia.”
